When I read that only 5% of marketers make it - I really didn't
think those numbers could be right.
But here is a good test. I just did this today and was shocked.
I went to my past issues of the newsletter, back to 1998 - and
forward - I clicked on all the links in the newsletters - what
a wake-up call. I'll bet there was not one in ten that are
still around.
Since my Resource Center aims at beginners, this warning
will also be for beginners - Be careful on your purchases.
You can purchase a program or script and have all your pages
set up and running, remember if you do not develope your
own product - they can just close it down and you are left
holding the bag - it has happened to me so many times.
I recommend something to my subscribers, they purchase it
and then they just fade away with the script or program.
This is pros as well as beginners - so just because a
person is a beginner does not make them the only ones
to be leary of.
It is not always easy to spot a product that is not up
to standard. Just do some research and make sure they
have been around awhile.
Another good idea to check things out is to enter the
name of the product or the person developing the product
into the search engines - you will find it will bring
up many areas where the name of the developer or the
product is mentioned. You can usually tell from this
if you are dealing with someone that has been around
awhile. You may also find some posts that are negative
about the product or person.
As an example - enter my name - Sharon Lambkin - into
the search engine - you will see many items where I
am listed - just scroll through and look at some of the
posts or entries - you can tell a lot about me from what
is pulled up in the search engines. Warning -
there is a porn site that also has the name of Sharon
Lambkin -THAT IS NOT ME.
Now having said this - I love working with new marketers -
Different is the secret word here.
ARE YOU A PURPLE ORANGE??
If you were looking through hundreds and hundreds of
oranges and you found a purple orange - wouldn't you
pick it up and look at it - DARE TO BE DIFFERENT.
Just because certain 'Guru's' market a certain way
with certain procedures and certain free e-books -
does that mean you have to do the same - NO WAY.
Always keep the Purple Orange in mind. You'll never get
picked up if you look the same as everyone else. All
of us have some original patterns within us - dig deep
and find them - they are there.
We were not meant to all think alike. If you were in
a 'think tank' with a group of other people - all
trying to come up with ideas and the first guru comes
up with an idea and then you take that idea and just
twist it a little and the next one twists it a little
more - soon you all would be tuning out that idea -
the same with internet marketing - I've started tuning
out even the best of the best because I've read their
ideas so many times with a new twist that I don't want
to read them anymore.
You know the ones that impress me now - the small
thinkers - the ones that dare to take their own ideas
and develop them against the rushing tide of the gurus.
(Which by the way - means Gee U R U.
I love to read the new newsletters and see the new
thinking and the new ideas. It is amazing the length
and depth of the mind when you put it to good use -
some of the clever marketing ideas are really
inspirational.
Just when you think there are no new ways to market
a product - up comes a newcomer with a fresh new
idea - don't use all your time just looking at the
pros - these newcomers are shining very bright.
You can use your time marketing the old ways - the
FFA pages, the free classifieds, the safe lists,
the guaranteed opt-in lists, and on and on - but that
is all you will be doing is using your time.
You won't be doing anything but burning up bandwidth -
human eyes will probably never see those efforts.
You must have a community atmosphere at your site -
get involved with your subscribers (well maybe that's
not the right word) anyway - make your subscribers
feel a part of it all - one on one is great -
I love working with a new marketer - seeing the
enthusiasm and the defeat outweigh each other and
finally accomplishment wins out. It is very refreshing.
The biggest problem I have working with beginners is
to stop the constant flow of information into their
computers - this is the fastest way to get burnout
and overload. There is plenty of time
to read all this information, just not all at once.
Just take a mountain of sand as a good starting point -
if you had to climb to the top of that sand mountain
and carry down one grain at a time until you have
removed the mountain - how much faster would you
wear out by having to climb that mountain to get
that grain of sand - than by taking the grain of
sand from the bottom and letting that mountain come
down to size on it's own.
Your brain is the same way - if you are trying to
start at the top and absorb all that information
instead of starting at the bottom,
your brain will be full and worn out before you
get to the good stuff.
Look yourself in the mirror and keep telling yourself -
I am the best marketer out there and no one can do it
like me. There is not another YOU - YOU are unique -
YOU have good ideas - YOU have original patterns
within yourself and no one can build your business
like YOU.
Not saying that a new person does not have a good
product - all I am saying is to check it out before
you invest big money.
I belong to the Warrior Forum - the most informative
forum on the internet and a benefit of hosting with
Host4Profit - we find posts there where a person is
new and advertising how to make money on the internet
and then you look at the questions they ask on the
forum and it shows very clearly that they know nothing
about what they are marketing.
When you purchase something - you want to know that
the person that is marketing the product knows a
little about marketing.
The great marketers of tomorrow are the small
thinkers looking in the mirror today!!! The small
thinkers will soon turn into big thinkers.
There's nothing wrong with being a purple orange.

(more than once but less than 10)
2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)
3. Add 5
